Hey there, my fellow Novids! My name is Sage, and I am a graphic designer, an advocate for creative expression, and a proud member of the Covid Underground. Our safe and nurturing community has thrived in the shadows of the pandemic. We remain vigilant in our pursuit of health and adaptability, united by the belief that there is more to life than the facade of normalcy embraced by the masses. Today, I have the pleasure of presenting to you the personal journeys and experiences of some of our incredible Covid Underground members. Their stories of growth, resilience, and transformation highlight the essence of our collective spirit.

The Painter and the Park: Vivienne’s Story

As a budding artist, Vivienne immersed herself in the world of colors and brushstrokes, seeking solace amid the chaos of 2020. Undeterred by the constraints of confinement, she painted an entire series of outdoor landscapes inspired by her imagination and desire for freedom. When restrictions eased, Vivienne couldn’t wait to embrace the world outside her four walls. She ventured outdoors, taking every precaution to protect herself and others from the virus.

Vivienne soon discovered our Covid Underground community, where she found kindred spirits in the pursuit of health and well-being. With our support, she initiated a series of outdoor, masked art workshops. These collaborative events allowed our members to reconnect with their creative instincts, free from fear and judgment. Together, we painted murals on the blank walls of empty buildings, breathing life into their barren facades. Through each stroke, our resilient community celebrated the power of art to heal, inspire, and protect.

Nina: The Melodious Healer

Music had always been Nina’s sanctuary, and when the pandemic struck, her world seemed to pause as if suspended on a single note. Yet, like many of us, she found herself questioning the very essence of her existence. Burdened by fear and loneliness, Nina channeled her vulnerability into her music, transforming her pain into a melodic balm for her soul.

When Nina stumbled upon our Covid Underground network, she found a safe space where fellow musicians could align their voices, even as they maintained their physical distance. With each chord resonating through the crisp air, Nina and her newfound community formed an ethereal connection, transcending the limitations of masks and boundaries. These masked outdoor concerts became a testament to the power of music to heal and unite us, even in the darkest of times.

Marco’s Gastronomic Escapades

As a passionate cook, Marco reveled in the simple pleasure of creating culinary masterpieces while confined to his home. Living alone, he craved opportunities to share his gastronomic creations with others. In his desperation for human connection, Marco experimented with contactless food deliveries to local friends and family. Word of his exquisite dishes traveled through the grapevine and into the heart of our Covid Underground community. Intrigued and impressed by Marco’s innovative approach to connecting with others, our community welcomed him with open arms (figuratively, of course).

Today, Marco organizes contactless cooking workshops and tastings in the great outdoors. We come together, six feet apart, to celebrate the earth’s bounty and the indomitable human spirit. With the tantalizing aroma of freshly brewed tea and the melodious whispers of the wind as our soundtrack, our community bonds through the rituals of meal prep and consumption. The essence of Marco’s journey with the Covid Underground is one that weaves together the threads of friendship, nourishment, and the innate human desire to share in life’s most basic pleasures.
